🎨 Bringing Frank Rozzani to Life: Using AI to Visualize My Characters

One of the most rewarding parts of writing a long-running series is watching your characters evolve over time—not just in their actions and decisions, but in how vividly they live in your imagination.

For years, readers have asked me a simple question:

“What does Frank Rozzani really look like?”

Like many authors, I’ve always had a clear picture in my head. But until recently, that picture lived only in my mind—and perhaps a little bit in yours.

That changed when I decided to use artificial intelligence as a creative partner to visualize the characters from the Frank Rozzani detective series.

🤖 From Manuscript to Image

As part of this project, I uploaded the full text of all seven Frank Rozzani novels and used that material—descriptions, actions, personality cues, and tone—to guide the creation of visual representations of the characters.

Rather than relying on a single paragraph of description, the AI drew from years of character development across multiple books to produce images that feel consistent with how these people live and move through their world.

The result was something I found both fascinating and a little surreal:

Frank is the anchor of the series—a former cop turned private investigator who tries to live a quieter life along Florida’s Atlantic coast but repeatedly finds himself pulled back into complicated and dangerous cases.

The AI-rendered Frank reflects the man readers know:

• Dark, thick hair

• The look of someone who would rather be left alone—but won’t walk away when something isn’t right

💻 Clifford “Jonesy” Jones

Jonesy is more than a partner—he’s a counterbalance to Frank. Where Frank relies on instinct and experience, Jonesy brings technology, creativity, and a different way of seeing the world.

• Attorney, hacker, and surfer

• Highly intelligent, with a laid-back outward style

• Loyal to Frank, but unafraid to challenge him

Visual Impression

The AI interpretation captured Jonesy’s dual nature perfectly:

• A relaxed, modern look—often in casual clothes

• An alert, analytical gaze beneath that easygoing exterior

• The unmistakable sense that his mind is always working two steps ahead

Nancy is Frank’s partner in life and one of the emotional centers of the series. She brings warmth, intelligence, and grounded perspective to Frank’s world—often serving as both a sounding board and a moral compass.

• Deeply supportive of Frank, but not afraid to challenge him

• Balances the demands of their life with grace and strength

The AI-generated image of Nancy reflects her presence in the books:

📚 Why This Matters

For me, this wasn’t about replacing imagination—it was about extending it.

Readers will always picture characters in their own way, and I love that. But these images offer a shared visual reference point—a way for us to see the same people standing in the same world we’ve all been exploring together.

It also opens up new creative doors:
